Questions and Appetizers with Chef Morimoto




Chef Masaharu Morimoto – known to millions as star of "Iron Chef" and "Iron Chef America" – is as comfortable cooking against the clock for a live television audience as he is preparing his signature omakase menu at his namesake restaurants. But no matter the circumstances, wherever Morimoto cooks, his inspired and innovative dishes garner critical and popular acclaim. Through the seamless integration of Western and Japanese ingredients, Morimoto has effectively created his own, unique cuisine – one defined by innovation and inspiration. Recently Morimoto answered a few questions for us and shared two mouth-watering recipes, Tuna Pizza with Anchovy Aioli and Daikon Fettucine with Tomato-Basil Sauce.

Q: If you weren’t a chef, what might you be?
A: A baseball player!

Q: What is the most useful ingredient in your opinion?
A: Fresh fish. I always want fresh seasonal fish. It doesn’t matter where in the world I am, it is important to get the best product available.

Q: What is always in your refrigerator at home?
A: Miso.

Q: What is the one thing you will not eat?
A: I’ve visited a pretty wide variety of countries and have eaten everything that has been served to me with one exception: dog.

Q: When you’re not cooking, what are your favorite pastimes?
A: Playing golf!
