Carley & Timmy Porter

Viking Range, LLC, the leader in residential kitchen technology, has named Carley and Timmy Porter as 2021 Designers of Distinction. Carley and Timmy are the owners of The Crooked Cabinet. Designers from around the United States are vying for the coveted honor to become the 2021 Viking Designer of the Year.

About the project :
Carley and Timmy Porter of the Crooked Cabinet have come a long way since they bought their first fixer upper in September of 2020. After cancelling their wedding due to Covid, the couple put their first home on the market on a whim. Within 24 hours, the house sold and the two had to come up with a plan quickly. They found a colonial style home built in the 1980's that needed some major TLC in their hometown of Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

"The house was very tired and very orange," says Carley. "We knew the home had so much potential. It has great bones." Carley works as a project manager for a high end interior design firm and Timmy, a manager for a risk advisory practice at a CPA firm. With the help and guidance of Carley's dad, the newlyweds set off on their first DIY remodel.

At 3,500 square feet, the house lends itself to an open floor plan concept. What was once a galley kitchen broken up by a wall and large columns is now a sprawling kitchen open to the adjoining dining and living room. The Porter's worked with their childhood best friend, Alex Forbes of Lane 17, to create a custom cabinetry design tailored to their needs. The kitchen lends itself to a traditional design in a clean and updated way. The brass hardware and stained white oak island bring warmth to the white shaker style perimeter cabinetry. An undercounter Viking microwave sits underneath a charming window wall clad in Bedrosian tile subway backsplash and illuminated with a library light sconce. The 11' island comfortably seats the couple's friends and family while housing a panel ready Viking dishwasher and farmhouse style sink. The focal point of the kitchen is the 36" gas Viking range in stainless steel with a custom angled hood. The 36" panel ready Viking refrigerator/freezer blends seamlessly with the custom cabinetry design. "We couldn't be more pleased with how our kitchen turned out. It is truly the heart of our home."
