Ah, Barcelona - the capital of Catalunya in the northeastern corner of Spain, the region that boasts wonderful architecture (Gaudl!), art (Picasso! Miró! Dall!), and of course, food (Ferran Adrià!). Barcelona feels at once ancient) it's about two thousand years old) and cutting-edge contemporary - around every corner you will find mind-boggling design, fashion, music and art shared with young and old, rich and not so rich, artists and academics, families and young people. Barcelona opens you up to traditions and inventions and smiles and cava (sparkling Spanish wine), stunning tapas and cutting-edge cuisine that has only begun. Ocean breezes and seafood are as fresh as the air, and well, the beach must be experienced. You can sample dozens of Spanish wines by the glass, the best ham in the world (sorry Italy, but Jamon Iberico makes any ham lover swoon), artisanal cheeses and inventive chocolates, pastries sweet and savory, and, Las Ramblas is the home of the world's best food market, "La Boqueria".
